Some New Tools (Grant Money Put to Work)

Thursday, September 04, 2003

Just a short note on where we are on new equipment. We have a few new hand tools around the shop...big stuff for the larger work. (I did mention that this was where all the exciting news would go, right?)

We'll be Receiving half a dozen air drills, bucking bars, etc. for sheet metal work shortly.

WE are looking at a acquiring a couple of new blasting cabinets. Our home-made one has served well, but it is time to get some more professional equipment. One will be for baking soda blasting, and the other for walnut shell/plastic (for steel and castings).

Rich Lund: Keeping Things Well Oiled And Clean

Sunday, September 07, 2003

Rich Lund, a long time volunteer, has secured us a donation of 48 cans of WD-40 as well as Lava Hand Cleaner from the good folks who make it. Many congrats to him for his efforts! WD40 is a necessity for virtually every nut, bolt and screw on the aircraft.

This is Rich's second major success in the donation area.

The first was the two large cans of Swing Professional paint stripper, donated by Swing Paints, (the makers of Circa 1850 paint removers) on his request, and which many of our team have enjoyed putting to good use. Sadly, your humble web master has been too busy typing out code to partake in the joys of stripping paint, So I am unable to report which type of paint stripper was donated, but I suspect it must have been the "gel" type.

Russell McGorman, with thanks to Andrew Waltz.

The New News Page.

When we receive a donation of a piece of equipment or some supplies, when we reach some milestone in the project, that's the kind of news that might only matter to the volunteers working on this project. There are of course other issues related to the aircraft, it's restoration and it's future that could and should be reported.

In these pages, we will report on the issues that matter to us as volunteer aircraft restorers, but don't quite fit into the Restoration Progress Reports page. The latest donations of WD40, acquisitions of parts, new volunteers, new sponsors, other Lancaster or vintage aircraft restorations, recoveries, and so on. I'm putting this part of the site together on the "build it and they will come" theory. Contributors will come, that is, I'm looking for regular contributors here. I'm not really an intrepid reporter... Content is not my forte! So I am hoping that there are volunteers better journalistic and literary skills than I have, Lancaster nuts and former Lanc crew members out there with time on their hands and stories to tell. if you feel like contributing, about Lancaster FM104, Lancs in general, or just the nuts and bolts of fixing up old airplanes, email it to me and I may just post it. I plan to update it as material comes in for the next little while, and then once every month or so.

Thanks in advance.

Russell McGorman
